Song of the day:

Evolution

We are slowly but surely finding our way. Some predicaments we are discovering along the way have been a.) We are not fat cats nor smelly sharks b.) We rather just create and make 'art' and c.)Girls just want to have fun

We are half way through our fan making project and so far things are looking good.

Its on like Donkey Kong!

Here’s a little sumthin, sumthin from our colourful workshop in Manila. Slowly but surely we are mastering the folds and flicks of fan making with our first of five different frame designs. Slowly being the operative word here, they are not yet refined but the magic between the vintage fabrics and aged wood is exciting. The newest in a long series of challenges is finding the right edging to seal the fabrics and put the finishing touches on the designs. As simple as this may sound the difficulty truly does lay in the fact they just won’t flick open and shut if the material used is too thick, for example ribbons, lace (which looks naf anyways) or even embroidery. Welcome to the trials and tribulations of fan making 101.

Wham...Bam...Welcome!!!!

Welcome to the new year people or perhaps we should say the lump in heart that is 2009...so far. After concluding a positive start to the first phase of our project and celebrating the festive season with everyone here at DAWN, we must say January has certainly arrived with a kick in the teeth.

Christmas was more than festive and celebratory in this overly catholic country. It was all good times at the DAWN Christmas party, where we face painted their little pumpkin faces, introduced group twister and had a buffet of dirty ice cream to fulfill our never-ending ice-cream dreams.

Since the turn of the new year, we have had to climb every mountain. And it just won't / don't stop. Challenges keep showing face. Bad news and also disappointments, from key figures withdrawing from the project, the flux in funding, to the ever so UN-welcomed dollar drops.  Oh, and let us not forget our forever struggle with the practicality of polyester. What can we say... we cannot let go!

Dealings in the third world are just so fickle and unsure. Anything could happen. From being extorted to death by a pedicab. Whatever it was and whatever it will be, will be.

Sometimes we are met with something positive, sometimes just another wrong turn. Sometimes the light fades, and sometimes its mighty strong. Its now the home stretch to the end (or is it), one month to go, and all we want is the light to be shining bright. Mercury retrograde has now kicked in, so lets try and stay positive until it blows over. JUST SHOW US THE LIGHT, seriously!

Today, and forever we must always remember, "Those moving forward, have their heads turned to the side".

Til next time-
